This programme takes you on a journey of footballing discovery. Football has been played for over 2000 years in some form or another. The History of the World Cup features all the immortals in the pantheon of the beautiful game. Pele, Beckenbauer, Zico, Maradona, Platini, Keegan, Baggio, Bergkamp and many more, as well as including highlights from the greatest matches ever played. Going right back to football's humble beginnings, we start with the creation of the FA in 1863, and FIFA in 1904 by Frenchman Jules Rimet. And from there we follow the sorts development and transformation into the truly international phenomenon it is today.
